President’s Cottage and Lehman Hall Demolition Projects

Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. (EPM) performed a survey for asbestos containing materials, exterior PCB caulking, lead painted surfaces, universal wastes and miscellaneous hazardous materials that could be impacted by proposed renovation of the President’s Cottage and demolition of the Lehman Hall Dormitory at SUNY Farmingdale.

EPM documented all findings which included location type of all confirmed hazardous materials.

Removal of Above ground Fuel Oil Tank

EPM provided a hazardous material investigation to support the design for the removal of an out of service 70,000 gallon aboveground fuel oil tank. EPM prepared subcontractor RFPs, supervised field activities, arranged for drilling and laboratory services, and drafted a hazardous materials investigation findings report.

EPM performed advanced Geoprobe® soil borings and manual soil borings in the vicinity of the oil tank to investigate the surrounding soil conditions.  EPM prepared a Site Investigation Work Plan and a Site Specific Health and Safety Plan for use during field activities. An EPM field representative marked the boring locations and collected the soil samples for laboratory analysis. Locations and test results were recorded for inclusion in the findings report.

EPM also collected samples of suspect asbestos containing materials, PCBs, and lead containing materials for laboratory analysis.  EPM prepared the associated remediation design documents and provided construction administrative support for the removal.

Electrical System Upgrade at SUNY Downstate Medical Center

Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. (EPM) performed inspections for the presence of materials containing asbestos, lead, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB caulks), mercury and universal
wastes, in connection with the Electrical Systems Upgrade at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.  The intent of the project was to replace the majority of the electrical equipment in both Mechanical Electrical Rooms (MERs) within the basement and the installation of five (5) conduits between the 8th floor MER and basement MERs.

EPM prepared a detailed report which listed sample locations, test results, quantities/locations of confirmed hazardous materials, and recommendations for future abatement and handling.

Greenley Library Renovation at SUNY Farmingdale

Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. (EPM) performed a survey for the presence of asbestos containing materials (ACM), PCB caulks, universal waste, and miscellaneous hazardous materials, in support of the proposed renovation of the third floor
of Greenley Library located at SUNY Farmingdale.

EPM personnel collected bulk samples of suspect ACM and suspect PCB containing caulks. Suspect ACM samples were sent
to a certified laboratory for Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and/or Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis, where necessary.

During the universal waste and miscellaneous hazardous materials inventory, EPM personnel noted the locations and quantities of all such items.
