Replacement of Two Garages and Incinerator in Community Districts 9-10-11 (bronx, ny)

Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. (EPM) performed an asbestos survey and an inventory of universal/miscellaneous regulated materials to supplement past information at the Bronx 9/10 and 11 Sanitation Garages/Incinerator.

The facility consists of two buildings:

1.      Bronx 9/10 is a two story plus mezzanine former maintenance garage (currently mostly utilized for storage) with associated offices

2.      Bronx 11 is the former incinerator building now mostly utilized as a maintenance garage along with associated offices

The purpose of the investigation was to sample previously assumed asbestos containing materials (ACMs) to limit the extent of abatement necessary; verify the locations and quantities of the previously confirmed ACMs; and to inventory universal waste, and miscellaneous regulated/hazardous materials.

West 135th Street Marine Transfer Station (manhattan, ny)

EPM performed an asbestos survey at the West 135th Street Marine Transfer Station (MTS) in order to identify the location of asbestos containing materials (ACM) that could be impacted by future renovation, reconstruction or demolition activities.

57th Street Garage (Manhattan, NY)

EPM was an environmental sub-consultant for the 57th Street Garage Remediation and Demolition Project encompassing three garage structures and an incinerator stack.

During site remediation, EPM was the on-site Project Monitor during asbestos abatement and supervisory consultant for all other remediation activities. EPM observed and ensured the Contractor performed their tasks in accordance with approved work plans, asbestos, OSHA, and hazardous and toxic waste regulations.

One of the most important tasks in accordance with applicable regulations, EPM tracked various cross contaminated waste streams generated by the project, ensuring that they remained properly segregated, stored, and transported off-site to the approved disposal facility.

In addition, EPM reviewed, evaluated and approved the Contractor’s Health and  Safety Plans, Asbestos Work Plans, Heavy Metal Work Plans, PCB and Mercury Abatement Work Plans, and Underground Storage Tank Removal and Soil Remediation Work Plans.
