Since 2005, EPM has been an environmental consultant to the Fashion Institute of Technology. Over 200 assignments have been completed for various projects throughout the Campus. A number of these involved collaboration with Architectural or Mechanical Engineering firms as the prime consultant.

Services provided to FIT have included:

  • Various hazardous material investigations including asbestos, lead, mold, PCB- caulk, soil, drinking water quality, ambient air monitoring, and noise monitoring

  • Remediation design services for abatement of asbestos, lead, mold, universal waste, and other hazardous materials within offices, classrooms, kitchens, laboratories, amphitheaters, and on exterior facades and roofs of administrative, classrooms, and dormitory buildings.

Some of the completed projects include:

  • Feldman Center Fire Emergency

  • Fire Alarm Upgrade at Marvin Feldman Center

  • Pomerantz Building Roof Renovation

  • Doneger Design Studio and CAIM Reno

  • HVAC Upgrade for Academic Buildings

  • Feldman Hall Smart Classroom Project

  • Feldman Hall 6th floor Student Lounge

  • A Building First Floor Lobby Renovation

  • A Building 8th Floor Faculty Lounge and Cafeteria Renovation Project

  • A/B Building Cafeteria Renovation

  • C Building 3rd and 5th Floor Classroom Renovation Project

  • C Building Boardroom and Livingroom Renovation Project

  • D Building Spray Room Ventilation Renovation Project

  • D Building Haft Auditorium Renovation Project, Asbestos Investigation

  • Coed Dormitory Phase I & Phase II Chiller Replacement Project

  • Campus Wide Exterior Sign Project

  • Multiple Emergency Response Actions for Abatement Oversight of Incidental Asbestos and/or Mold Disturbance

Some projects required a coordinated effort with DASNY, while many other assignments were performed as a sub-consultant to an Architectural or Mechanical Engineering firm, or were performed directly for the campus facilities or health and safety departments.

EPM has provided significant mold consulting services for FIT. One assignment included oversight during remediation of mold contaminated ceilings caused by significant water infiltration in a coed dormitory.  A second assignment required asbestos and mold investigation, remediation design, and remediation oversight of a room that was stocked with valuable textiles.

In addition to asbestos, lead and mold investigation and remediation oversight, EPM is often contacted by FIT's Director of Environmental Compliance to respond to in-house hazardous material-related emergencies. Many of these requests are responded to within one hour of notification. These requests have included: monitoring ambient air within laboratories for volatile organic compounds with a Photoionization Detector (PID), Dataram real time particulate monitoring during concrete sanding and demolition, and evaluation of chemicals used within classroom laboratories to evaluate if safer alternatives are available.

EPM is adept at employing dynamic approaches to effectively manage hazardous materials even in the most sensitive environments such as these.
