Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. is currently a prime consultant  to Metro-North Railroad responsible for hazardous material surveys, design, and abatement monitoring of miscellaneous hazardous materials on an as-needed basis for all Metro-North infrastructure in New York State and Connecticut. This charter encompasses the Grand Central Terminal, any station along the Harlem, Hudson or New Haven Lines, various bridges, repair shops, maintenance yards, service garages, traction power substations, communication or signal terminals, tracks, and heavy equipment.  Since notice to proceed, EPM has participated in over 100 work orders to date.

Several of the work orders included surveys of stations on the Harlem, New Haven and Hudson Lines.  Following preparation of the hazardous material survey reports, abatement scopes of work were prepared for those stations undergoing reconstruction or rehabilitation. 

Several work orders have required EPM to provide Competent Person monitoring during in house Maintenance of Way repairs to Metro-North Rail Bridges along the Harlem, New Haven, and Hudson Lines.  EPM personnel provide oversight and conduct lead exposure monitoring on Metro-North personnel. 

EPM has also provided oversight during abatement of asbestos containing material or disturbance of lead based paint.  Personnel are responsible for ensuring that the contractor complies with the approved technical specifications and agency regulations (i.e., per OSHA, NYS,  MTA), in order to safeguard the health and safety of any workers in the general vicinity of the regulated work area.
